I’ve noticed that a lot of big studios don’t handle ports in-house anymore. They outsource to external teams that specialize in it. On one hand, it makes sense—they can focus on new content while someone else handles the technical side. But I’ve also seen ports turn out sloppy, which makes me question if outsourcing is always the right choice. Have you guys seen examples where outsourcing really worked or totally failed?

I found some insights on this when I was browsing this website. It explained that outsourcing can actually be a huge advantage if you’re working with the right partner. Specialized teams often have the tools and experience to handle optimization more efficiently than the original dev team. The issue is when companies go cheap or pick the wrong collaborator—that’s when ports suffer. So it’s less about outsourcing itself and more about who you trust with the work.
