SOLO & ENSEMBLE FESTIVAL

The results from the Solo & Ensemble adjudications will be available online by Thursday, December 18th.

REPERTOIRE CHANGE - In effect for 2015 Solo & Ensemble Festivals for String Solos

To continue to provide a quality experience for all participating students along with valuing the differences in performance repertoire, and based on the success of the pilot Violin Virtuoso project conducted in 2014, NEMFA will be establishing a two-tiered system for Viola, Cello and String Bass solo performances for the 2015 Solo & Ensemble Festival.

Those instrument will also have a change in their listings so that select virtuoso pieces may receive additional rating points when performed for the Solo & Ensemble Festival.

It will take some time this spring to update those instruments' repertoire so be aware that the status of pieces that are currently on those listings may change.

We expect to be able to post those new listings by the Concert Festival.

Students performing pieces listed as Adjudication Only will receive verbal and written feedback on their performance as well as a rating, BUT WILL NOT BE considered for invitation to the New England Orchestra for that year. These pieces are designed for students who wish to begin working towards acceptance in the New England Concert Festival, giving them music to prepare as they work towards that goal.

Students performing pieces listed as Standard Piece will receive verbal and written feedback on their performance as well as a rating with that rating being used for considered for an invitation to the New England Orchestra that year. Most students wishing to attend the New England Concert Festival will perform pieces from this listing.

Students performing pieces listed as Virtuoso Piece will receive verbal and written feedback on their performance as well as a rating with that rating being used for considered for an invitation to the New England Orchestra that year. The adjudicator will have the option of adding up to 7 points to the rating of these students (one in each of the 7 evaluation categories) to acknowledge the difficulty level of these pieces and the student's performance level. Those additional points will be included in the student's performance rating.

As always, students may perform any piece of their choosing for adjudication only.

As part of this process, those listings will been reduced significantly. Extensive research will be done on which pieces have been used in the past 10 years and which are no longer performed prior to removing pieces from the listing.
