VIOLIN REPERTOIRE CHANGE - In effect for 2014 Solo & Ensemble Festivals

In order to continue to provide a quality experience for all participating students along with valuing the differences in performance repertoire, NEMFA is moving towards a two-tiered system where select virtuoso pieces for solo instruments receive additional rating points when performed for the Solo & Ensemble Festival.

The first instrument to use this new system will be the Violin Solos and the new listings are now available.

VIOLIN - Adjudication Only
VIOLIN - Standard Pieces
VIOLIN - Virtuoso Pieces

Students performing pieces listed as VIOLIN - Adjudication Only will receive verbal and written feedback on their performance as well as a rating, BUT WILL NOT BE considered for invitation to the New England Orchestra for that year. These pieces are designed for students who wish to begin working towards acceptance in the New England Concert Festival, giving them music to prepare as they work towards that goal.

Students performing pieces listed as VIOLIN - Standard Piece will receive verbal and written feedback on their performance as well as a rating with that rating being used for considered for an invitation to the New England Orchestra that year. Most students wishing to attend the New England Concert Festival will perform pieces from this listing.

Students performing pieces listed as VIOLIN - Virtuoso Piece will receive verbal and written feedback on their performance as well as a rating with that rating being used for considered for an invitation to the New England Orchestra that year. The adjudicator will have the option of adding up to 7 points to the rating of these students (one in each of the 7 evaluation categories) to acknowledge the difficulty level of these pieces and the student's performance level. Those additional points will be included in the student's performance rating.

As always, students may perform any piece of their choosing for adjudication only.

From this process, the Violin listing has been reduced significantly. Extensive research was done on which pieces have been used in the past 10 years and which are no longer performed prior to removing pieces from the listing.
